So we just got wind that Helen Sjöholm will participate in

the English-language, concert version of the 1995 Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson musical “Kristina frÃ¥n DuvemÃ¥la.” The show will be at Carnegie Hall on September 23-24.

This is good casting news since Sjöholm created the part of Kristina, is one of Sweden’s leading musical-theater talents, and is a regular vocalist in the Benny Anderssons Orkester.

Fans of both Abba and even “Chess” should be warned, however, that “Kristina” is far from being as accessible. Set in the 19th century, it reflects more a certain orchestral classicism, mixed with a lot of Swedish folk music. There’s plenty of background info on the show’s original site.

Here’s Sjöholm performing a song from the musical, in the original Swedish.
