I love musicals. I especially love them when they teeter on the brink of total insanity, then tip over. And if they’re translated from the English, it’s a plus.

Imagine my joy, then, when I heard that last fall the Malmö Opera put on “Jesus Christ Superstar” with Ola Salo, from the Swedish band the Ark, in the role of Jesus. (Nothing new about rock stars playing the role of course: Ian Gillan of Deep Purple did it on the original recording.)

While some prefer the ballad “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” my favorite number from the show is the bombastic “Superstar.” And here it is in all its Swedish glory, performed by Patrik Martinsson as Judas. The dancing girls are simply astounding.
