The 2023 season didn’t go quite as planned for the Brooklyn Nets.

In February, the team fired head coach Jacque Vaughn and ended the year with a dismal 32-50 record. To make matters worse, small forward spark plug Mikal Bridges was traded to the crosstown rival Knicks over the offseason.

Still, recently hired coach Jordi Fernández can’t wait to get the squad into shape.

“I am eager to get to work with this talented group of players and collectively drive our team forward,” the 41-year-old said in a statement.

With the help of returning stars Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, Nic Claxton, Dorian Finney-Smith and Dennis Schröder — who led his native Germany to the Olympic Semifinal this summer — the Nets may be able to return to the postseason after an off year.

In order to get there, they’ll have to beat perennial contenders like the NBA champion Celtics as well as the Pacers, Nuggets, Heat and Knicks, all of whom are headed to the Barclays Center this season.
