“Toy Story 3″ finished first at the weekend box office, pulling in $109 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The film became the first Disney/Pixar release to top $100 million in its opening weekend.

“The Karate Kid” (Sony/Columbia) came in a very distant second with $29 million, enough to bring the film’s total gross to more than $100 million so far.

“The A-Team” (Fox) placed third with $13.7 million, while the Universal comedy “Get Him to the Greek” placed fourth with $6.1 million.

Commenting on the success of the “Toy Story” franchise, Paul Dergarabedian, president of the box-office division of Hollywood.com, said in an email, “In the world of box-office the Disney/Pixar collaboration can do no wrong,” adding that the studio’s first $100 million-plus opening demonstrates “the brand is stronger than ever.”
