The world’s first 65-inch LCD TV set – that’s five-and-half feet from corner to corner – is going on sale this summer.

The set will sell for about as much as a small car, $15,500.

Sharp Electronics says the first sets will go on sale Aug. 1 in Japan, but will be available in the U.S. probably in time for Christmas.

The new set breaks the extising record – held by Samsung’s 46-inch screen.

In March, Samsung announced it had developed an 82-inch LCD panel, but that set is not yet on the market.
