CBS’ “The Mentalist” is the new primetime rat ings king.

The show, in which Simon Baker plays a former con-man-turned-cop, became the most-watched program on TV last week, snaring nearly 19 million viewers.

It is the first new-season show in recent memory to land on the top of the charts.

The show’s audience has quietly surpassed other popular series, such as “NCIS,” “CSI” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

“The Mentalist” stars Baker as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has an incredible track record for solving serious crimes by using his intense skills of observation.
