THE castaways on “Lost” are about to gain a new starlet.
ABC has confirmed that Michelle Rodriguez is joining the cast of the show. Her character, Ana-Lucia Cortez, appeared briefly in the season finale, flirting with Jack (Matthew Fox) in an airport bar shortly before they both boarded their doomed airliner.
Their conversation was cut short when her cell phone rang, but they agreed to meet up later on the airplane. Cortez told Jack she was sitting in the back of the airliner, and he was sitting more toward the front.
“Lost” producers will not say exactly how Rodriguez’s character will fit into the show’s ongoing saga, but online groups theorize that she may have survived in the tail end section of the plane despite the craft being ripped to shreds as it crashed.
That part of the plane, say fans, could have landed elsewhere on the island – and there could be an entirely new group of survivors.
Rodriguez, 26, landed on fans’ radar a few years ago with her breakout role as a boxer in “Girlfight.” She’s since gone on to star in “The Fast and the Furious,” “Blue Crush” and “S.W.A.T.”
“Lost” turned out to be one of ABC’s biggest hits in years and averaged about 16 million viewers each week.
