Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” is suffering from cancer, a close relative confirmed Wednesday.

Franklin’s family said she was doing “OK” and asked only for continued thoughts and prayers. It was not immediately clear what type of cancer was afflicting the 68-year old, though The National Enquirer reported it was advanced pancreatic cancer, believed to be incurable and inoperable.

Last Thursday, the Detroit-area songstress underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness

She had earlier canceled all concerts through May 2011 due to “medical reasons.”

“The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!” Franklin said in a statement last week.
