Somewhere, there’s a polite version of “WTF?” reverberating through the halls of “DowntonAbbey.”

The mega-popular British drawing room series, which airs on ITV in the UK, was snubbed by the Baftas, Britain’s version of the Emmys, in the award nominations announced yesterday.

It’s the first time in the show’s three season history that it’s been shut out by the prestigious awards — strange, considering its popularity over there and here in the US, where it’s now the most popular series in PBS history.

The series stars Maggie Smith as the cranky Dowager Countess and, last season, featured guest star ShirleyMacLaine. Last season also saw the departures of stars Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Lady Sybil), while actress Siobhan Finnernan (O’Brien) also left.
