“Put a Rang On It” is a clever new Instagram account that reimagines — via top-notch Photoshop — big-name stars as fair gingers in full, freckled glory.
(“Rang” is short for ranga, a derogatory term used in Australia to describe redheads.)
The account is the brainchild of Nadia Ahmad, an advertising creative director (and noted non-redhead) based in Sydney. Ahmad says she thought of the name two years ago but sat on it until she got the idea to start the Instagram — and its accompanying Tumblr and Facebook pages — in late April. In the month since, the ’gram has racked up nearly 12,000 followers.
“I decided to focus on famous faces, and it just took off,” says Ahmad, who insists the images are meant to celebrate, not ridicule, fiery manes. “The ‘Friends’ cast is probably my favorite. I believe it’s also the most liked post on Instagram.”
