ALEJANDRO Escovedo, a singer/ songwriter based in Austin, Texas, was hospitalized in April due to complications from hepatitis C.
Escovedo doesn’t have health insurance, so musicians, friends and fans established a fund to pay his bills (see alejandrofund.com), and a series of benefit concerts. Here in New York, three are happening this week.
Tonight’s gig at Southpaw (125 Fifth Ave., Brooklyn; [718] 230-0236; $10) features Amy Allison, Yo La Tengo, Roscoe’s Trio, Nina Nastasia, and Mary McBride.
Tomorrow’s benefit at the Mercury Lounge (217 E. Houston St.; [212] 260-4700; $25) includes Ian Hunter, the Last Hombres with Levon Helm, Los Lonely Boys, Mary Lee’s Corvette and Tammy Faye Starlight.
Thursday’s show at the Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St.; [212] 219-3006; $20) will have on hand Garland Jeffries, Jon Langford, Lenny Kaye, Chip Taylor and Carie Rodriguez, and the Star Spangles.
TONIGHT: On its latest album, “Hold on Love,” Azure Ray, with Omaha’s Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor, builds ethereal Soundscapes.The dream pop duoperforms at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette St.; [212] 539-8770).
WEDNESDAY: The Stills recorded their debut album, “Logic Will Break Your Heart.” This fall the group goes on tour with Interpol. Before the Stills set off, they perform at Sin-é (150 Attorney St.; [212] 388-0077). : ]
FRIDAY: Wanda Jackson, performs authentic rockabilly at Maxwell’s (1039 Washington St., Hoboken; [201] 798-0406).
Laura Cantrell brings her more traditional country to the Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancey St.; [212] 533-2111).
