BIDDING ENDS ON EBAY
GOING once, going twice . . . the race to bring an eBay- themed TV show to the air has finally gotten the green light.
The syndicated show, co-produced by the San Francisco-based online auction behemoth (with Sony Pictures Television) will air next fall.
Producers promise it will be an hour-long combination of “Entertainment Tonight,” “Antiques Roadshow” and “Ripley’s Believe it or Not.”
“eBay-TV” will also offer the local stations that air it a one-minute segment that will direct viewers to the station’s Web site for eBay-powered auctions of local interest – such as tickets to a sporting event or a golf outing with a local celebrity.
As part of the deal, the stations stand to make a small commission off each sale.
eBay is also expected to pay stations about $6 for each viewer who becomes a member of eBay through the channel’s Web site.
“eBay-TV” will be hosted by Molly Pesce, a former regular on Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” The show is not expected to offer any kind of live auctions like eBay’s Web site.
Instead, producers plan to include magazine-style features on major upcoming eBay auctions, like the props from a movie set or a TV show.
