Over the years, vampires have gone from crusty, poorly manicured bloodsuckers (see 1922’s “Nosferatu”) to smoking-hot creatures.
On Friday, Milla Jovovich takes gorgeous reanimated corpses to a new level with “Ultraviolet,” a futuristic tale about the battle between humans and hemophages: people infected with a vampire-like disease that makes them better soldiers, but they’ll die in 10 years.
Later this year, Lucy Liu will don the fangs in “Rise,” making the undead even foxier. Here’s a look at some of the top vamps. If they say “I want to suck your blood,” you may let them.
Milla Jovovich
“Ultraviolet” (2006)
Role: Violet, a hemophage rebel who steals a mysterious government weapon
Why she’s hot: She’s as handy with a sword as with a gun, can change her hair color on a whim and unleashes a healthy dose of whupass in tight pants and midriff-baring tops.
Fang-o-meter: four drops of blood
Kate Beckinsale
“Underworld: Evolution” (2006)
Role: Selene, a vampire “death dealer” who hunts Lycans (werewolves)
Why she’s hot: She wears a form-hugging black body suit, shoots guns without blinking, kicks serious butt and, bonus, her eyes turn ice-blue when she’s mad.
Fang-o-meter: three and a half drops of blood
Dominic Purcell
“Blade: Trinity” (2004)
Role: Drake (aka, Dracula), the guy who begat the entire vampire race
Why he’s hot: He’s a thick-necked, body-building tank with a buzz cut who’s got a way with the Goth chicks.
Fang-o-meter: two and a half drops of blood
Salma Hayek
“From Dusk Till Dawn” (1996)
Role: Santanico Pandemonium, a vampire stripper at a seedy bar
Why she’s hot: She’s a bikini-clad snake charmer with a whole new way to drink whiskey.
Fang-o-meter: three drops of blood
Josie Maran
“Van Helsing” (2004)
Role: Marishka, the youngest bride of Dracula
Why she’s hot: She bares her fangs while wearing wispy, low-cut dresses.
Less hot: her clawed feet and scaly wings
Fang-o-meter: three drops of blood
Brad Pitt
“Interview with the Vampire” (1994)
Role: Louis, the eternally sad vampire with a conscience
Why he’s hot: Aside from being Brad Pitt, he’s got flowing hair and a colonial New Orleans drawl, plus he throws the most fetching tortured looks at Lestat (Tom Cruise).
