It was a beautiful day for Bono and Jimmy Fallon to go bicycling in the city.
Nearly six months after a bicycling crash in Central Park left him severely injured, the U2 frontman got back in the saddle to record a “Tonight Show” gag — in which he gets “struck” by a van.
The spoof was filmed outside “The Tonight Show’s” 30 Rock studio on Sunday ahead of U2’s scheduled Friday appearance on the show.
At one point during Fallon and the rocker’s ride, “Bono” — actually a dummy wearing the same outfit as him — was slammed by a large van.
The bicycle was shown crumpled under wheels with the dummy sent flying and flattened.
Then, in a bit of TV sleight of hand, Bono took the dummy’s place on the ground and comically nursed his “injuries.”
It was no laughing matter on Nov. 16, when the 54-year-old Irish rocker crashed his bicycle for real, mangling his right eye socket, shattering his left arm and damaging his elbow, shoulder blade and hand.
He underwent five hours of emergency surgery.
The accident canceled U2’s planned weeklong “residency” on “The Tonight Show.”
Bono is mostly healed now but still can’t play the guitar.
Despite the lingering wounds, he has rejoined the band and is ready to go on their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour that kicks off on May 14.
The tour is coming to the city with eight shows at Madison Square Garden between July 18 and 31.
