IF Frank Langella hadn’t received an Oscar nomination for “Frost/Nixon,” it’s pretty doubtful that an opaque oddity like Richard Ledes’ “The Caller” would have managed even a one-week vanity booking at the Quad.
Langella looks dapper as a corporate whistle-blower whose execution has been ordered by his employers. He inexplicably hires a rumpled retired NYPD detective (a mildly amusing Elliott Gould) to follow . . . himself.
“The Caller” qualifies as something of a Holocaust movie, with flashbacks to World War II France. Guess who the two boys we see grow up to be?
Running time: 95 minutes. Not rated (violence, profanity). At the Quad, 13th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
