CBS snared eight Edward R. Murrow Awards yesterday – while ABC won for Best Newscast (“World News Tonight”).

The awards are considered the créme-de-la-créme of broadcast awards and are handed out each year by the Radio-Television News Directors Asssociation (RTNDA).

CBS News’ eight Murrows lead all the networks – and included a citation for “Overall Excellence” – while NBC News won two awards and an award for its Web site.

Among the individual awards were:

* Continuing Coverage: “NBC Nightly News” (the late David Bloom reporting on the war in Iraq for NBC/MSNBC).

* Feature Reporting: ESPN “SportsCenter” (“Picking Up Butch”)

* Spot News Coverage: The “CBS Evening News” (First Day of War)

* News Documentary: Peter Jennings (“The Kennedy Assassination: Beyond Conspiracy”)

* Web site: MSNBC

* Writing: CBS News (“Everybody Has a Story”)

* Videography: Univision (“In Search of a Miracle”)

* Investigative Reporting: “Dateline NBC” (“Do No Harm – Sulzer Hip Implants”)
