EX-Lovin’ Spoonful drummer Joe Butler was caught between a rock and a hard place on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” this past Tuesday.

Butler, appearing on the show’s syndicated version (12:30 p.m./Ch. 7), was in the hot seat opposite host Meredith Vieira. He made it to the $16,000 question when he was tripped up.

Butler was asked what lunar phase of the moon is located between the earth and the sun.

Butler’s answer: “Waxing moon.” Correct answer: New moon.

Still, Butler did win $1,000, not bad for a few minutes’ work.

The Lovin’ Spoonful had several hits in the ’60s, including “Summer in the City.”
