CH. 5 anchor John Roland signed off yesterday – ending his distinguished, 35-year association with the station.

Ch. 5 devoted parts of its 5 p.m. newscast to Roland, airing tributes from colleagues and admirers including ex-mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The tribute also included a film/video retrospective of Roland’s long career at Ch. 5, which he joined in 1969 when it was known as WNEW.

Roland appeared on-air at the end of yesterday’s 5 p.m. newscast, where he was presented with a cake and was joined by Rosanna Scotto, Linda Schmidt, police commissioner Ray Kelly, former co-anchor Cora Ann Mihalik and his wife, JoAnne.

Roland then sat for one last time at the anchor desk and addressed his loyal audience.

“I want to thank you for inviting me into your home for all these years,” he said. “It’s an invitation I never took for granted – and always considered an honor.”
