IT appears that “Cold Case,” the 6-year-old cop series about a Philadelphia detective squad that investigates unsolved crimes, is coming back.

The series — along with another veteran crime show, “Without a Trace” — has been in jeopardy of cancellation at the end of the year, not because the ratings were bad, but mostly because they have grown too costly to produce.

CBS allowed a few new leaks over the weekend, several days ahead of its planned fall line-up announcement, and word was that “Cold Case” (starring Kathryn Morris) will remain on the schedule.

Several new shows, including a spinoff of the highly successful military-police show “NCIS” to star LL Cook J and movie actor Chris O’Donnell, were also said to be on the fall schedule.

No word yet on the fate of “Without a Trace.”

Both shows have been steady if unspectacular ratings performers. But as the networks look to cut costs in the face of an advertising downturn, the high cost of the two shows have made them targets.
