William Petersen says there will definitely be a “CSI” movie, ending months of rumors about the show’s big-screen fate.

“Yes, there will be a movie,” Petersen told Britain’s Radio Times.

“I can understand people are a little trepidatious because of the franchise around the world and how well it’s doing.

“Usually people leave it until a series is finished,” he said, citing “The X-Files” and “Sex and the City” movies as two recent examples.

“But it’s about finding the right story — there has got to be a reason to do it.

“You don’t just do it because you want to make money — you do it because there’s a story that can’t be told on TV and needs to be told from ‘CSI’s’ perspective and the audience wants it.

“And we can’t wait for `CSI’ to end or Grissom will be about 90.”

Petersen, who originated the role of “CSI” chief Gil Grissom, left the show earlier this season after eight years, but is still one of its executive producers.

He was replaced by Laurence Fishburne.

Rumors about a “CSI” movie have been swirling for a while — and Petersen himself has said he would like to play Grissom on the big screen.

“That’s the other reason Grissom isn’t going to die of a brain tumor,” he said last fall.
