CHRIS Cuomo is the new Maria Shriver.

The youngest member of the Cuomo political dynasty has been named the news anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America.” He takes over for Robin Roberts, who is now coanchoring the popular morning show with Diane Sawyer.

Cuomo – whose older brother, Andrew, is running for New York state attorney general and whose father, Mario, was once governor – will also be the principal substitute anchor for Sawyer and Roberts.

Until yesterday, Cuomo was a co-anchor on ABC’s newsmagazine “Primetime” since 2004.

Network officials say he will keep his nighttime job.

Cuomo is far from the first national news broadcaster to have major political ties.

Shriver, who is a member of the Kennedy political dynasty and a former correspondent and anchor for NBC News, is married to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
