Much has been filmed about the government’s botched response to Hurricane Katrina and the loss of human life.

Geralyn Pezanoski’s documentary “Mine” examines the tragedy’s effect on something else — household pets, including a goldfish.

Animal owners — those who were reunited with their furry friends and those who weren’t — join rescuers in having their say.

An elderly gentleman notes that homes and furnishings can be replaced, but not companions. On the other hand, an animal-rights activist says, for pets who were badly treated and went on to find loving new owners, “Katrina is the best thing that could have happened to them.”

A well-meaning effort, “Mine” is unfortunately dry — though my cat, Audrey, seemed pleased.
