Don’t sing JLo to JLo
Jennifer Lopez isn’t impressed by musical homage.
The film and pop star says that she’s encountered several “American Idol” hopefuls who’ve tried to make it to the next stage of auditions by performing her hit tunes — and they usually get rejected.
“It was cute, super entertaining and flattering, but no,” Lopez told reporters during an audition in LA.
Thanks to Steven Tyler’s presence on the judges’ panel this year, they’ve also had to endure plenty of Aerosmith covers. There, “Idol” hopefuls have had more success.
One female blew the judges away with her rendition of the Aerosmith ballad, “Don’t Want to Miss A Thing.” Lopez called the audition “an amazing moment.”
“We’ve put a bunch of people through — probably more than they have in the past. We are confident that we have . . . 15 to 20 real superstars,” she added.
Meanwhile, Tyler hinted at the kind of commentary that will be on display during the upcoming season, which starts in January.
“We switch on being brutal,” he said. “We don’t beat them up. Some really think they’re all that, and we let them down easy. Sometimes it’d be nice to flame them.”
