THE heat was on yesterday morning at the Institute of Culinary Education (formerly Peter Kump’s) on West 23rd Street as 10 of the nation’s best firehouse cooks battled for $10,000 and the title of America’s Hottest Firefighting Cook in the second Tabasco Cook & Ladder Competition. Dan Rinaldi from Cranston, R.I., nabbed the top prize for his “Firehouse Fra Diavilo,” which bested such hot-sauce tinged competitors as smoldering creme brulee and Tabasco cheesecake.
