EBAY FAILS TO MEET RESERVE
EBAY has delayed its bid to put on a TV show.
The online auction-site behemoth was thinking of launching a nationwide show this fall, but now says it will wait at least a year – after receiving some “nibbles” from local stations.
“My sense is that the show is great for eBay – I’m not so sure that it’s great for a local television station,” a source told the San Francisco Chronicle.
“What happens when they open the show and say they want to talk about napkin rings – and no one wants to hear about napkin rings?”
Insiders say eBay just wanted more time to tinker with the show’s format – and that it’s not a question of station interest but rather program content.
Ebay execs, working with Sony Television, have described the show as a cross between “Antiques Roadshow” and “Entertainment Tonight,” and even enlisted ex-“Spin City” star Richard Kind to help pitch the show, according to the paper.
