ELLEN DeGeneres will host next month’s Emmy Awards, CBS announced yesterday.

DeGeneres, host of her own talk show (“The Ellen DeGeneres Show”), hosted the Emmys solo in 2001- when the twice-delayed showhad an air of solemnity following Sept. 11.

“You know me, any excuse to put on a dress,” DeGeneres said about her upcoming hosting duties.

This isn’t the first Emmys hosting gig for DeGeneres. She also co-hosted the Emmys in 1994 (with Patricia Richardson, then starring in “Home Improvement”) and was among the bevy of hosts in 2003.

“There is no more perfect choice to host this year’s Emmy show than Ellen,” said executive producer Ken Ehrlich.

“She brings her own distinct style and talent to everything she does, and this year in particular . . . we’re thrilled to bring those talents to the show.”

The 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sept. 18 (8-11 p.m.)from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The next day, DeGeneres will do the first-ever live episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” – dedicated, of course, to her previous night’s Emmys hosting gig.
