‘American Idol’ contestant Corey Clark is suing MTV for more than $40 million, claiming defamation.
Clark is accusing “MTV News” correspondent Jim Cantiello of unfairly ridiculing him, falsely accusing him of being a liar and calling for a boycott of his music, according to Reuters.
Clark was disqualified from Season 2 of “Idol” after making it into the Top 10 when the Web site Smoking Gun reported that he faced three misdemeanor charges, including a battery charge involving his sister.
Cantiello was the “MTV News” “Idol” expert at the time, and the lawsuit claims that he defamed the singer in a series of online posts from 2007 through 2011, calling him an “alleged sister-beater” and a “degenerate” after the charges were dropped.
