Unwinding suspensefully from the point of view of a little boy who lives in the French embassy in London, the Hitchcockian thriller “The Fallen Idol” (1948) brought together writer Graham Greene and director Carol Reed a year before their masterpiece “The Third Man.” The boy (Bobby Henrey) stumbles onto adultery and possibly murder in the embassy while his parents are away. Ralph Richardson (above, with Henrey) gives a beautifully modulated performance as the butler, who befriends the lad. Nominated for directing and screenwriting Oscars, the film has long been out of print on video and has never been on DVD. Starting today, it’s getting a two-week revival at Film Forum,

Houston Street, west of Sixth Avenue.
