GEORGE Clooney’s re turn to “ER” gave the show a much-needed ratings jolt.

Clooney’s Thursday night appearance on NBC’s veteran hospital drama helped “ER” snare nearly 11 million viewers, its best numbers in over two years.

Clooney was an original cast member as Dr. Doug Ross, who romanced nurse Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) before leaving “ER” at the end of its fifth season in 1999.

Thursday’s episode showed Ross and Hathaway now married with two kids and living in Seattle.

Along with several other “ER” alumni – including Noah Wyle and Anthony Edwards – he agreed to return to help “ER” mark its departure after a 15-season run.

The series finale is scheduled to air April 2.
