‘GOOD Day Live” co-host Debbie Matenopoulos is recovering from a concussion and facial contusions after a stunt went horribly awry.
Matenopoulos, reporting on life in an L.A. firehouse Wednesday, was wearing 30-pound firefighter boots when she jumped from a three-story building onto an inflated lifesaving mat.
She landed awkwardly, punching herself in the face with such force that it resulted in short-term memory loss and a concussion.
Matenopoulos, with “GDL” colleague Arthel Neville by her side, was taken to a local hospital and released after tests showed no permanent damage.
“It seemed like a good idea at the time,” Matenopoulos told The Post yesterday. “I basically knocked myself out – my fist and knee hit my face and I’ve got a goose egg underneath my jaw.
“It hurt like hell,” she said. “Lucky for me, my ring cut my throat – the doctor said I was lucky my ring didn’t go through my esophagus.”
Matenopoulos, who’s still in a lot of pain – “it hurts so bad when I cough or laugh” – said she’s not sure when she’ll be back on the air.
“I have to go back to the doctor so who knows?” she said. “They want to send a remote crew out here and do a show with me in my bed.”
