‘THE Office” star Ricky Gervais has struck a co-production deal with HBO – which will air his new show, “Extras,” after its British debut.
Gervais will play bitter, down-on-his-luck movie extra Andy Millman in “Extras,” which is scheduled to debut on BBC2 this summer.
The show will then air on HBO at an undetermined date.
Gervais has corralled a bevy of A-list stars for cameos in “Extras,” including Samuel L. Jackson, Kate Winslet and Patrick Stewart.
Stephen Merchant, who co-created and wrote “The Office” with Gervais, will play Millman’s agent in “Extras.”
Gervais originated obnoxious “boss-from-hell” David Brent in “The Office,” which became an instant classic in Britain.
The series ran for two seasons, won a slew of awards and shattered records when it was released in the U.K. on DVD.
“The Office” aired here on BBC America and gained a cult following.
NBC’s Americanized remake, also called “The Office,” has tanked in the ratings.
