Sherlock Holmes fans are in a tizzy over news that CBS has turned Dr. John Watson into a lady.

They flocked to the Web to rant about news that Lucy Liu has been cast in the pilot for “Elementary,” a modern-day retelling of the Holmes mysteries starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock and set in the Big Apple.

Most fans took issue with the fact that the original’s proto-bromance wouldn’t be evident with a male-female pairing.

“Hell no,” wrote Juggernaut1063 on ew.com. “One of the pillars of the Holmes story is the MALE FRIENDSHIP. Not male and hot female sidekick.”

Another big concern was “Now all anyone is going to care about is when they’re going to hook up,” complained ew.com poster Bianaca.
