A group of lucky British “Simpsons” fans got the world’s first glimpse of “The Simpsons Movie” – three weeks before its hotly anticipated July 27 premiere.

A 10-minute clip of “The Simpsons Movie,” adapted from Fox’s classic ‘toon featuring Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa, was screened Wednesday in the Odeon West End theater in Leicester Square.

Fans who got into the screening say the movie lampoons the environment and global warming in typical “Simpsons” style – and even takes several swipes at organized religion.

“In America there’s someone willing to pretend to be offended by everything, and so we annoy people and that’s part of the appeal,” “Simpsons’ ” creator Matt Groening told the audience.

One scene features punk rockers Green Day being booed and pelted by angry fans when band leader Billy Joe Armstrong starts speaking about the environment during a concert.

Later, brainy Lisa Simpson is shunned by the inhabitants of the family’s hometown of Springfield when she tries to talk to them about global warming.

Lisa also appears to fall in love with an environmentalist from Ireland – who insists he is not the son of activist/U2 frontman Bono.

In another scene, the Simpsons turn up late for church, where Grandpa Simpson has a seizure and starts to see the future – while Homer flips through a Bible. “This book doesn’t have any answers,” he grumbles.

Executive producer Al Jean admitted that the movie will tackle some major issues but that, like the sitcom, it won’t necessarily take sides – even while poking some fun at Al Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

“They are big themes,” says Jean. “Especially the environmental theme.

“But we always like to approach it from both sides, so later in the film when Lisa’s giving a lecture about pollution, the label of the lecture is ‘An Irritating Truth.’ ”
