Last season’s reintroduction of the old Top 36 semifinalists proved too unwieldy, so the hit Fox show is going back to presenting America with the Top 12 male and Top 12 female semifinalists after the Hollywood Round.

The idea is to give audiences more time to connect with the semifinalists on a weekly basis.
