‘IDOL’ GOES HOME
THE three “American Idol” finalists got heroes’ welcomes when they went back home over the weekend – trailed by cameras, of course.
Beat-boxer Blake Lewis sang “The Star Spangled Banner” at a Mariners game in Seattle.
He was the guest of honor at a parade in suburban Bothell and gave a concert in front of 7,000 screaming fans – including Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot.
In Nashville, Melinda Doolittle sat in an open car for her parade, had a street named after her on the campus of her alma mater, Belmont University, and met Tennessee’s governor before performing for her fans.
Fan favorite Jordin Sparks – the daughter of retired NFL player Phillippi Sparks – returned home to Glendale, Ariz.
Some 5,000 fans sweated through triple-digit heat just to catch a glimpse of the 17-year-old during a parade and an outdoor performance.
Her day was such big news that local TV stations broke into regular programming to give updates on her tour around the city.
