BOB Hope and Katharine Hepburn, who died a month apart, had more in common than being Hollywood legends.
Back in 1956, they starred together in “The Iron Petticoat,” a British-made comedy that is now available on video for the first time in decades through a Canadian Web site.
Hope played an American military officer assigned to “de-Communize” Hepburn’s Russian aviator in the comedy, which received mostly negative reviews.
It probably didn’t help that Hope and screenwriter Ben Hecht took out ads in trade papers accusing each other of “ruining” the movie.
“It’s pretty obscure. Most people don’t even know it exists,” said Gerry Hawke, who’s selling videos of the film for $24.99 on learmedia.ca.
“It’s the only movie the two of them starred in together, so it’s popular with collectors of either star’s work.”
