JEOPARDY!” know-it- all Ken Jennings made history last night – becoming the biggest money winner on a single quiz show in the history of TV.

Jennings snagged $45,099 on last night’s edition of the game show, making his total winnings so far $2.197 million, breaking the previous record of $2.18 million set in 2001 by Kevin Olmstead on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.”

Olmstead still holds the title of taking home the most total winnings as a TV quiz show contestant, because he also snared $25,900 in cash during an earlier appearance on “Jeopardy!” His total winningsfor the two shows was $2.206 million.

Jenning’s world record is more significant since he’s taken the title on a single game show.

The Utah software engineer’s milestone win came on a Final Jeopardy question about royalty: “This King was the great grandfather of France’s King Louis XV”

The correct question was: “Who was Louis XIV?”

Jennings has been on the show since June 2 but is expected to lose sometime in the next few weeks, according to published reports.

So far he has defeated 130 contestants and answered more than 2,000 questions correctly.
