A recent high school graduate from New Jersey won a teen “Jeopardy!” championship and a grand prize of $75,000 yesterday.
Meryl Freedman, 18, of Livingston, N.J., won the title and the prize money by a margin of $1 in the final round of the first-ever “Jeopardy! Summer Games Teen Tournament.”
Freedman, who is headed to Harvard University this fall to study math and physics, beat two other contenders – Greg Peterson of Park Ridge, Ill., and Kyle Neblett of Beaverton, Ore.
Freedman credited a book on wagering for helping her plan her winning strategy.
“After I made the show, my parents gave me a book about ‘Jeopardy!’ tips, which I read specifically for betting strategy,” she said.
“Jeopardy!” airs 7 p.m. on Ch. 7 with host Alex Trebek.
