THE verdict is in – “Judge Judy” is now in a league with “Oprah Winfrey.”
Ch.4 has reportedly agreed to cough up a whopping $200,000-per-week to keep top-rated “Judge Judy” on the station through 2003-2004.
That’s $10.5 million per year, folks.
A Ch.4 spokeswoman would only confirm that the station has extended the show, but had no comment on the weekly pricetag.
Ditto for a spokeswoman at Paramount TV, which syndicates the courtroom show.
In the New York market, only Ch.7 pays more for a syndicated show – about $300,000 per week for “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
Thus far this season, “Judy” – which formerly aired on Ch.2 – has been beating “Oprah” in their head-to-head 4 p.m. timeslot.
“Judy” has averaged a winning 450,000 households on Ch.4 over the last four weeks.
The show is hosted by tough-talking Judge Judy Sheindlin, who also owns a piece of her show.
