White cranberries start out green, then turn nearly white.

GET ready for cranberries of a different color. White cranberries come from the same place as red ones. The berries start out green, then turn nearly white (some with a blush) before fully ripening to red.

Ocean Spray discovered that the light-colored berries taste smoother and less tart than the red ones, so for the first time, the juice giant is using them in drinks. They’re available in three flavors – pure white cranberry, and mixed with either peach or strawberry – tailored to kids and others who don’t care for the stronger taste of the original.

The white juices are high in vitamin C and offer the same urinary-tract benefits as red juice, but not the antioxidants. They’re also less likely to stain.

What’s next, white pumpkin pie?
