Kate on a mini role
Kate Winslet has a date with “Mildred Pierce.”
The Oscar-winning actress (“The Reader”) will star in a five-hour “Mildred Pierce” miniseries for HBO in the same role that won Joan Crawford an Oscar in 1945.
Like the movie, the series will be based on James M. Cain’s classic noir novel about Pierce, a proud single mother struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the Great Depression.
The miniseries will be directed by Todd Haynes.
Casting for the other roles is under way, with production expected to begin in April in New York.
Winslet, who started her career on British TV, has earned six Oscar nominations in addition to her win last year for “The Reader.”
