THE dancing’s about to get dirty again, with plans for a sequel to the 1987 film that sparked a worldwide craze.
Miramax and Artisan yesterday announced they will team up to make a Latin-flavored “Dirty Dancing 2,” in which the action will shift from the Catskills to Miami’s South Beach.
Miramax honchos Harvey and Bob Weinstein and Artisan head Amir Malin said at the Cannes Film Festival that the two studios will jointly develop, produce, finance and distribute the film.
A script is in development and no casting decisions have been made.
The original film, starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, grossed $150 million worldwide, and the soundtrack has sold over 22 million copies.
