‘LAW’ STAR SUING EBAY
“Law and Order” star Jerry Orbach is headed to federal court — and this time, it’s personal.
The actor, who plays a wizened New York detective on the hit NBC drama, filed suit yesterday against eBay, accusing the popular Internet auction site of exposing him to credit-card fraud and identity theft.
The suit says eBay recently put up for sale two old acting contracts signed by Orbach in 1958, including one with his Social Security number on it.
The contracts were posted on eBay’s Internet site, where would-be shoppers, or anyone else, could scan the documents and see the number, the suit says.
The online auction offer has exposed Orbach to “identity theft and credit-card fraud,” the suit claims.
eBay is selling the contracts for the History Store, a Maine-based dealer of books, documents and autographs.
A spokesman for the Internet giant said it yanked the contracts off the site as soon as it learned of the problem.
