NBC is launching its long talked-about 24-hour local news channel, called New York Nonstop, on Monday at 5 a.m.
The channel – broadcasting on Ch. 161 for Time Warner Cable subscribers and Ch. 109 on Cablevision – is positioning itself as a hipper, fresher way to get the news.
Sandwiched between news and weather updates will be local entertainment and lifestyle features, with periodic man-on-the-street segments like “What’s the Deal?” and “Sidewalk Stories.”
Chuck Scarborough’s current 7 p.m. newscast, “New York Nightly News,” will move to the cable channel, where he’ll be given a full hour to do more news and longer in-studio interviews with newsmakers.
“Extra” will air on Ch. 4 at 7 p.m. in its place beginning next week.
