LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS
IN “Loins of Punjab Presents,” an odd assortment of Indian-Americans and one white guy gather in a New Jersey hotel for a weekend-long, Bollywood-inspired talent contest called “Desi Idol,” Desi being a term used by South Asian immigrants to describe themselves.
Under the direction of neophyte Manish Acharya, the film is a collection of profanity-filled gags aimed at Desis.
The cast is personable even though their characters and the story are clichéd. If you’re wondering, Loins of Punjab is the name of the meat company sponsoring the contest.
Running time: 88 minutes. Not rated (foul language). At the Quad and the Imaginasian.
