MADE IN THE FADE
Here’s some good news for women who don’t like doing laundry: Faded, battered jeans are in.
Denims that look like they’ve had a nasty run-in with a steel brush and bottle of Clorox have become as prevalent as Learning Annex boxes.
Hipsters seem particularly keen to weather the upper-thigh area of their jeans – right where your legs hit when you sit at a desk.
That said, artfully faded jeans – even the ones that are only bleached out along the front crease – aren’t exactly office wear.
You’re much better off wearing them on the weekends, with simple tank tops or stylish blouses.
Where’d?
(4) Parsons grad student Becky Weng scored her bleach-creased Seven jeans at Intermix for $150. Her stylin’ suede top (dig the snaps) was $15 at Canal Jeans in SoHo. Weng, who’s 24 and majoring in broadcast design, found her red and white herringbone purse for $20 at the Brooklyn vintage store Beacon’s Closet, while her cutesy pink and black Marc Jacobs shoes were $340 at Bloomingdale’s.
(1) Lisa Sidlecki pairs her Seven jeans (she found them at Barneys Co-Op) with a pink and brown striped shirt by J. Crew.
(2) A sweet eyelet tank top pretties up Jill Bradshaw’s faded denims.
(3) Bleached knees are the bees’ knees, says Sunna Duw, who wears her bleached bottoms with a simple black tank top.
(5) A loose blouson top and a chic Marc Jacobs handbag dress up this looker’s intentionally faded dark jeans.
(6) Margot Mason works a vintage roadie look with her ’80s novelty T-shirt and faded black jeans.
(7) A pretty white blouse and a sloppy newsboy cap by Carnaby Jones top off Lisa Castro’s easygoing, worn-in denims.
