Mark Indelicato, who played gay teen Justin Suarez on “Ugly Betty,” has some strongwords for Kurt — the openly gay character on “Glee.”
Indelicato thinks Chris Colfer’s Golden Globe nomination for playing Kurt on “Glee” is well-deserved — but also says the character should be portrayed as less of a victim.
“I just don’t understand why the gay character is portrayed as the weak link — or the person who can’t stand up for themselves,” Indelicato told latina.com.
“I think every gay character on TV — whether it be a boy or a girl, or even somebody questioning their sexuality — I would like to see them portrayed as stronger and more independent.
“Not squeamish.”
Indelicato, 16, played Justin, the fashion-obessed nephew of Betty (America Ferrera), for the entire run of “Ugly Betty,” which aired on ABC from 2006-2010.
The character came out of the closet in the show’s fourth and final season.
