MARK’S THE SPOT
The Bar Belles love luxury.
So we were in hog heaven one night when we strapped on our Manolos and sashayed into the Mark Bar, the first-floor boite in the Upper East Side’s terribly chic Mark Hotel.
It’s an intimate, dark-green space with comfy couches to accommodate groups. For smaller tete-a-tetes, there are chintz-covered tuffets surrounding side tables just big enough to hold one of the signature $13 cocktails or two (try an orangy Mandarin), a bowl of the Mark’s signature nuts and an ashtray for your smoke.
Uh, on second thought, cancel that last one.
It’s a shame you can’t smoke there, really, since the Mark Bar is the kind of old-school, rich-guy joint that should smell like a heady, seductive mix of Coco Chanel cologne and Cohiba cigar smoke.
Alas, those days are over.
Thanks, Mike.
