Got the gig: In 2007, salon owner Roberto Novo set out for a cup of coffee. Along the way, he passed a pet store and saw a French bulldog in the window. It was love at first sight, and Novo brought back the pooch instead of the coffee. “Machito loves to socialize and be around people, instead of being left at home,” says Novo of why he started bring Machito to work with him. Soon, Novo adopted Matilda, and a year ago she and Machito became the proud parents to puppy Millie. Now, all three hang out at the salon.

Responsibilities: Flirting with the clientele and hamming it up for the camera. They are so adorable they’ve been photographed by Martha Stewart, Drew Barrymore and Terry Richardson.

Love: Attention. “They lap it up,” says Novo. In fact, the family of Frenchies have been known to sit on clients’ laps during blow-outs.

Pet peeves: Machito and Matilda only get antsy when they aren’t the center of attention, and Millie has little patience for small children.
