MOVIE TICKETS’ VANISHING ACT
OPENING weekend tickets for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” are moving faster than Harry’s broomstick -so a little Internet wizardry may be in order.
“We’ve sold more advance tickets for this than any other film,” said Loews Cineplex spokeswoman Mindy Tucker, who advised ticketbuyers to check on availability with Fandango.com and Moviefone.com.
Moviefone -which handles advance ticketing for Clearview Cinemas, United Artists and other chains as well -also sells tickets by phone at (212) 777-FILM.
As of yesterday, a number of local screenings were sold out over tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday -particularly after school tomorrow and for evening showings tomorrow and Saturday.
Tucker said Loews’ sales were briskest at the E-Walk on 42nd Street and at the Lincoln Square at Broadway and 68th Street. Both are showing the film on multiple screens.
For early birds, unadvertised midnight screenings tonight were still available yesterday through Moviefone for Loews Lincoln Square and Loews Orpheum.
Fandango spokesman John Singh said theaters might add screenings.
He said his service has already sold about 300,000 advance tickets for “Harry Potter” and that industrywide, more than 1 million would be sold before the opening.
That translates to more than $5 million -given the average U.S. ticket price of $5.25.
Experts project a record gross of $80 million this weekend.
